A Brief Moment in History

A historic marker sits at the SE corner of N. 3rd and Brunswick Streets that identifies “the world’s longest” railroad.  This was true during the mid 1800’s when the stretch from Wilmington to Weldon , NC was the longest in the world.  Although, the honor was short-lived, at the time it was international news.  Travel on I-95 and you can still visit Weldon , NC , a historic farming town under-going it’s  revitalization.  Visit the Brooklyn Arts District in downtown Wilmington  and you’ll find a condo building named in honor of this brief moment in history built next to the old railway bed!
